The time is up

All the recent atrocities have been absolutely devastating. Continuously watching and reading about black people getting murdered and abused is a different kind of trauma. It is a constant reminder that our lives don’t matter. The American law enforcement encourages the killing of citizens and its judicial system constantly reminds them that as long as it’s a black person you will face no legal consequences because black lives don’t matter. This makes its law enforcement a playground for racist murderers and places the power to assassinate minorities in their hands.

George Floyd’s murder has sparked a huge uproar and honestly, they weren’t ready. Black people everywhere are tired of watching their brothers abused and murdered for no apparent reason. We are tired of feeling un-safe with the individuals that are meant to protect us. Not just black men, but black women and black children. We refuse to continue to watch our brothers be assassinated on the streets and we will not be silenced. People all over the world are protesting the murders of black citizens by law enforcement and I refuse to call it police brutality because it is simply murder, I will call it what it is. We must leave no room for ambiguity. Breonna Taylor was murdered. George Floyd was murdered. David McAtee was murdered. Murderers with a badge are murdering black people. Black people are not mistakenly dying due to police brutality they are being purposely killed because of rampant racism and the lack of laws that make the use of unauthorized force by law enforcement a crime.

We have been protesting the killing of black people by police for decades and all we’ve gotten is condolences, cute speeches, prayers and “support”. What we need is action. Condolences and sentimental speeches are nice but they clearly do not stop black people from getting killed. We need policy changes in law enforcement. We need laws that will lead to the persecution of murderers with a badge. On a systemic level, we need politicians in congress/parliament who are not racist and are against the killing of black citizens by law enforcement. We need celebrities and large companies to put pressure on the government to make necessary changes to policing, especially the American government. As individuals, we the citizens of the world need to demand change. Not politely ask or suggest. The time for asking is over.

To help support black lives, protestors and those that have lost their lives, I have inserted a few links. Please continue to raise awareness and support in any way you can.
